- The word Reiki is formed by two Japonese characters:
"rei"="universal" and "ki"="energy", meaning life force energy which
animates us and everything around us. Today, due to Mikao Usui, we
can connect in a special way to the universal energy source, bringing
harmony and peace at all the levels of our life. Usui, who was a
christian priest (so they say) called this healing energy Reiki, and
his name has been preserved in the name of the main branch
of traditional Reiki: Reiki Usui Shiki Ryoho.
- Practically, this is an ancient healig method that was
rediscovered at the end of the 19th century by Mikao Usui. It consists
in channeling the universal energy by a therapist for people's benefit.
One can use Reiki energy to work directly by placing his/her hands on
the recipient in accordance with a series of Reiki hand positions.
Another possibility is giving distal Reiki sessions and the efficiency
has been proved also in this case. These days people use to talk about
this kind of therapy by using the generic term of "bioenergy".
So, the therapist is just a link between the
universal energy source and the receptor who benefits from this
process. Because in Reiki we don't use our own energy but the universal
energy, those interested in practicing this therapy need to get attuned,
and the attunements can be done only by a qualified Reiki master.
